LIONS is an acronym which stands for LIBERTY, INTELLIGENCE, OUR NATION’S SAFETY, and our Motto is “We Serve.” We support many worthwhile projects, with a key emphasis on sight preservation and eye research and providing sight and support for the blind.
Our many worthwhile projects are the Lions/USA Eye Research Institute in Mobile, Alabama Lions Sight Conservation Association, Camp Seale Harris, and support Southeastern Dogs for the Blind

Melvin Jones Fellows: Past International President Aubrey D. Green, Charles Richardson, Langford Stephens, Amos Bailey Jr., Past District Governor David Hatcher & Thomas Taylor.
Past International President Aubrey D. Green died March 25th 2007 with 60 years of service in Lions Club International and the York Lions club.
Donated $250.00 to the University of West Alabama Tiger Club.
Donated $60.00 to the Sumter Fine Arts.
Donated $400.00 to Southeastern Guide Dogs School, $400.00 to Camp Seale Harris Dibetic Training Camp,& $500.00 to the Hightower Library.
Gave 120 baskets of fruit to residents at the Sumter Rehap in York.
Presented Amos Bailey Jr. with a Melvin Jones Fellow award, which is the highest award for an individual in a club level.
Gave $100.00 to Friends of the Arts to teach Sumter Nursing Home residents how to paint pictures.
Donated $200.00 to Cancer Relay for Life.
Gave $200.00 to Alabama Sight to help buy a Pascal Laser.
Donated $120.00 to the Coleman Center.
$60.00 to the Coleman Center after school project.
Bought $175.00 worth of U.S. Flags to put on telephone poles on special occasions.
Donated $500.00 to Lions Clubs International Foundation to help with disasters around the World.
$25.00 went to the local Boy Scout Troop.
